the personality
To not be recognized by people he knows, to die being buried beneath a mountain of books (with his job, he just might), and that he won’t be remembered.
FEAR
DESIRE To be noticed, for his boss to at least try to organize the books, to be in love
WORST MEMORY When he asked a girl out in the ninth grade and she asked who he was.
SECRETS Not a virgin, gave his little brother’s cat away and told him it ran away.
LIKES Pears, books, reading, the quiet, people-watching, spicy food, speaking Spanish, organizing things
DISLIKES Being ignored, being forgotten, being cut off, oatmeal, having to reorganize the bookstore after his boss, being belittled, being asked if he’s gay (he’s bisexual but really? He’s not that pathetic looking), saying he has Beiber Hair, screaming people, unexpected noises
STRENGTHS Reading, reorganizing things, Kendo, playing guitar, keeping his temper
WEAKNESSES not very confident, shy, passive, easily overlooked, doesn’t act, only wishes, no self-esteem
OVERALL PERSONALITY [/blockquote]
Charlie seems like a total wet blanket. Small, meek, shy, quiet, you wouldn’t notice him if he were jumping up and down wearing a bright purple afro. He’s just a small guy who no one would notice if he just stopped showing up. At least that’s how Charlie sees it. He’s just a quiet guy who spends his life in a bookstore doing whatever his boss tells him to do. He’s a pushover but if you push too hard Charlie will break and no one knows what will happen if it does, so they just keep pushing him back.
Charlie has broken before. It was in the sixth grade and Charlie just snapped. If people remembered him at all it would be for that reason. It was scary. It just shows that people do have a breaking point, and even though Charlie’s limit seems limitless, it’s not and he will snap. He seems like he doesn’t have the ability to do anything like that, but sometimes it’s like a stubborn zit, put enough pressure on it and it’ll pop, and it will be messy.
Charlie doesn’t look it but he’s actually kind of strong. He moves giant boxes of heavy books many times a day and it’s not that easy. He makes it look easy because he does it so often that he’s built up muscle doing it. He just looks like this meek little guy that no one imagines him to be strong, but Charlie just lets it slide and works in the bookstore quietly.
Charlie is dedicated to his work, when he’s not home or visiting his family, he’s at work. Reading when there aren’t customers and reorganizing books and basically doing whatever his boss bids him to do.

the history
Matthew and Jane James
PARENTS
SIBLINGS two siblings, Kylie and Kevin, twin fourteen year old siblings
OTHER FAMILY None
SIGNIFICANT OTHER None
WEALTH STATUS Middle class growing up, slightly lower class now
HOMETOWN Sundance
OVERALL HISTORY [/blockquote]
Charlie‘s parents met in Sundance at the age of fourteen, both waiting for the school bus the school bus to Haven High. That‘s what sparked their romance. For the next four years they dated and were claimed “cutest couple“ in their senior year book. Once they were out and both eighteen, they got married as soon as possible. Matthew went away to college and Jane started working in the boutique. Soon enough, Jane got pregnant with her first child, Charlie. He was a peaceful baby, so quiet and mild tempered, hardly ever cried.
Charlie kept the temperament his entire life, even when he was five and his parents had not one, but two more children. Normally children who have been an only child don’t want to share the attention with new babies, preferring to have their parents all to themselves. If Charlie felt like that, then he certainly didn’t show it. He was patient to get attention from his parents, and didn’t even mind when he was sent off to elementary school and the babies got his parents attention all day long while he was gone. In fact, Charlie would have preferred it if he had stayed home with his siblings. With all the other kids at school, and Charlie’s quiet personality, he was just sort of shuffled aside.
It stayed like that for years, Charlie just a quiet blip among other rambunctious kids. He didn‘t like being so alone, so forgotten. But he put up with it for years, all the way up until he was in the sixth grade. He had matured faster than the other boys in class so he actually started liking girls first. So in the sixth grade, he asked out this really cute girl who had been in the same class as him since Kindergarten. But when he asked her out, she only said one thing “Who are you?”.
Charlie snapped. It was bad enough that he was ignored and overlooked, but he’s been in the same class with her for so many years and she doesn’t even know his name. He yelled his name over and over and over again: “MY NAME IS CHARLIE! MY NAME IS CHARLIE!” scaring all the other kids around him. Once the teachers managed to calm him down, he was sent to the counselors office for the next two weeks just to talk about what was wrong.
It was forgotten a year later, but this time Charlie knew that it was unacceptable to just flip out like that. He hadn’t wanted to, it just exploded on him like a water balloon at his younger siblings water themed birthday party last July. Just, pop.
The one place Charlie did get his attention from was his younger siblings, they loved his because he was always willing to play with them. Charlie adored his siblings, and was saddened when they were ten and Kylie fell ill. Because their parents were always working, Charlie was responsible for taking care of the young girl, day after day whenever she coughed or sneezed she’d repeat the same phrase with such a pathetically heartbreaking face “It hurts Charlie”. And Charlie tried everything to get her better. And often she was in his room while he googled symptoms in his computer, trying to find her illness and how to treat it.
That‘s how he discovered it. She was allergic to Kevin‘s cat, Tiger. He was allowed everywhere but Charlie’s room (he hated the cat, always seemed to glare at him…) and Kylie always seemed to get better whenever she was in Charlie’s room. Tiger went wherever Kevin went, and Kevin went everywhere Kylie went, and Kylie always sneezed and coughed and looked so weak around the two of them. Charlie knew that as much as Kevin loved Kylie, he would never give up his cat. So Charlie stole the cat, shoving it into a cat carrier and taking his mom’s car. He drove it all the way to Texas and left it in front of an animal shelter. It’s Charlie’s darkest secret, and he’s never told anyone. He just told the heartbroken Kevin that Tiger ran away.
After graduating from High School, getting applause from his parents siblings and sparse others that didn’t know him as he walked across the stage, Charlie immediately got a job and moved out of his parents house. He lived in an apartment in Tree Haven, working at the bookstore. No college for him, just working. He didn’t want to go to an even bigger place where even more people wouldn’t know who he was.
